Career & College Promise program through NC Community Colleges
Through the “North Carolina Career and College Promise” program, North Carolina high school juniors and seniors have the option of taking courses from any North Carolina community college and receive both high school and college credit. Tuition and textbooks are provided to Surry Central students taking these classes.
Some community college courses have prerequisites. The requirements for each course can be checked by going to the web site of the community college offering the course in question.
If you are interested in taking a Surry Community College course, you need to do the following:
· Complete and sign the Career & College Promise application.
· Your counselor will also have to sign and complete portions of the application. Your high school counselor will also attach a transcript and, if necessary, a copy of your test score.
· You will speak with a Surry Comm. College counselor who will assist you in registering for a college class. Only a Surry Comm. College counselor can actually enroll you in a college class - your high school counselor cannot.
College Transfer Pathways
Courses in this category are designed to transfer to 4 year-colleges and universities. In order to take these courses, the student is required to have a weighted GPA of at least 3.0. Students must also have minimum scores in English/Writing, Reading, and Math from any combination of the standardized tests listed below:
· PLAN (minimum score of 15 on the English section, 18 on the reading section, 19 on the math section)
· PSAT (minimum score of 45 on the writing section, 47 on the critical reading section, and 47 on the math section)

Additionally, provisional students who successfully complete ENG 111 with a ‘C’ or higher can enroll in ENG 112.
